Discord markdown vs Unicode letters
Discord has its own formatting, but it only works inside messages. Names of channels, roles and nicknames need Unicode letters.
| You want | Discord markdown | Unicode letters |
|---|---|---|
| Bold in a message | text | Also works |
| A heading in a message | # Title | Not needed |
| A stylish channel name | Not possible | Works |
| A fancy nickname | Not possible | Works |
| A styled role name | Not possible | Works |
How to name channels in an art server
- Generate the name and copy it.
- Open the channel settings › Overview.
- Paste the name and save.
Pair an emoji with small caps for a calm, tidy sidebar:
Roles that feel like a community
Keep the server welcoming
- Heavy glitch in names is often removed by moderation bots.
- Searchable names help new members find #critique or #commissions.
- Screen readers read fancy characters awkwardly, so keep channel meaning clear.
Questions artists ask
Why doesn’t bold markdown work in channel names?
Markdown is only read inside messages. For channel and role names, use Unicode letters from the generator.
Can I use fancy letters in my Discord name?
Yes, in your display name and server nickname. The unique username has stricter rules.
Does glitch text work on Discord?
It does, but many servers block it with bots. Light Glitch is the safest choice.
