How to make lettering art in five steps

  1. Write your words. Short phrases look best. Press Enter to break lines exactly where you want.
  2. Choose a letter style. Scroll the list or tap Surprise me when you feel stuck.
  3. Pick a palette. Start with Washi paper or Sumi ink. Change the background or ink later.
  4. Choose a canvas. Square for posts, Story for Reels, A4 for printing.
  5. Download PNG. The file is exported at full size, with nothing added on top of your work.
Your art stays yours. We never add a watermark, and nothing you type is uploaded. The canvas is drawn by your own browser.

Small design habits that make a big difference

  • Leave breathing room. The studio keeps a calm margin around your words. Resist filling every corner.
  • One idea per piece. A single line of four to eight words usually reads best on a phone.
  • Contrast first. Light ink on dark paper, or dark ink on light paper. Mid on mid tends to disappear.
  • Sign your work. Add your handle in the signature field so shared art leads back to you.
  • Print test. Before framing, print a small version at home to check the colors.

How the studio draws your letters

The studio uses the same Unicode alphabets as the fancy font generator. Your browser draws them with the fonts already on your device, then saves the canvas as a PNG. That is why the same piece can look slightly different on a phone and a laptop: each system has its own way of drawing each character.

For an even more personal result, export your lettering and trace it by hand. Our guide to hand lettering for beginners is a good first step.

Questions artists ask

Is the Lettering Studio free?

Yes, fully free, with no account, no limits and no watermark.

Can I sell art I make here?

The letters are standard Unicode characters drawn by fonts on your device. Many system font licenses allow using rendered images, but rules vary. For products you sell, check the license of the font your device used, or redraw the lettering by hand.

Why does my artwork look different on another device?

Each operating system draws Unicode characters with its own fonts. Export the PNG once you like how it looks; the image will then look the same everywhere.

Can I print the A4 canvas?

Yes. The A4 canvas is 2480 × 3508 pixels, which prints at 300 dpi on A4 paper.

Does the studio upload my text?

No. The canvas is drawn in your browser and the PNG is saved straight to your device.
